Se-Ma-For studio seems to be doing quite well recently in terms of attendance of their productions at various festivals worldwide.

This week studio announced on their website when and where you can see some of the titles, so let’s have a look:

Maska by Quay Brothers, Two Steps Behind… by Paulina Majda, as well as The Lost Town of Switez by Kamil Polak have been qualified to the 17th Palm Springs International ShortFest (21-27 June 2011). Also, Maska by Quay Brothers got into a competition at 19th International Animation Festival ANIMA MUNDI, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro (15-24 July 2011). (…)

If it’s not enough, three of Se-Ma-For productions have been accepted to Animator Festival competition in Poznan, Poland.

Animator Festival 2011: Competition Films Announced

June 15, 2011 Leave a comment

Since I am away now with limited access to any internet or telephone (can you imagine my happiness and light-heartedness?? 🙂 ), I planned this post some time ago. And I do hope nothing changed in the meantime in Animator organisers’ plans. So: today you should be able to find a full list of films selected for the festival competition on Animator festival website!

(You can also find there latest updates on the event programme. A post at Frogs and Squash on that appeared here in May 2011)

I am sure some of you have been waiting for the news for quite a while now and pretty much impatiently! And fingers crossed for all animators who submitted their works to the selection process. I believe the competition even at this stage was huge as the organisers had decided to postpone the announcement date due to the volume of submissions. I look forward to check the results myself.

And in the meantime, let’s have a look at one of the last year’s winners. Big Bang Big Boom by Blu (2010) was awarded the Bronze Pegasus. I, personally, think Blu is… unique (at least at this point in his career). Do you feel the same?

Let’s Find James Bond Spirit in Virus by Robert Proch (2009)

Virus by Robert Proch was actually the only Polish animation awarded at Animator Festival in 2009. It got a special award in music film category.

At first glance it may seem that there’s not much new in this short.  However, when you go on watching (believe me less than 5 mins is not that huge sacrifice!), you appreciate its dynamic rhythm and the way the picture completes the sound (or the opposite). Also, my son loves the idea of a train in it (yep, little trainspotter!) and I cannot resist expecting a revolver and James Bond figure at the end… (what does it say about me??) 🙂 Don’t worry, it won’t come.

Animator Festival 2011

May 15, 2011 1 comment

This summer, it is going to be 4th edition of that international celebration of art of animation. International Animation Festival Animator 2011 starts on 15th July, lasts for a whole week and takes place in Poznan, Poland.

So far it seems that this year’s programme may be really interesting – at least we may get such impression from recent announcements of the festival organisers: quite a lot of Japanese animation in the programme (Kihachiro Kawamoto, Yoji Kuri, Atsushi Wada); a retrospective of a father of African animation, Moustapha Alassane; tribute to our very own, Polish animator but also known worldwide, Ryszard Czekala; or a different perspective on puppet animation (a programme curated by Heather Henson).

For updates and info on the coming edition of the festival, go to Animator Festival web site.

Deadline for competition, unfortunately, has passed (March 2011). So why not think of preparing yourself for the next one… 🙂
